Project Description & Details

Task

My Dev News (@mydev_news_bot) addresses a practical pain point: too many feeds, too little time. The bot curates important content from a wide range of sources, sends short summaries, and upon request, provides a Squeeze — five key points and the main idea.

Product page: /dev-news-bot/. Telegram bot: t.me/mydev_news_bot.

Solution

A working TypeScript bot on a VPS: sources → deduplication and freshness filter → ranking → delivery to personal messages → settings for topics, intervals, and digests. The interface and news are available in Russian, Ukrainian, or English.

Architecture and stack

Stack: TypeScript, Telegram Bot API, RSS / GitHub Atom, SQLite (Squeeze cache), Docker.

Layers are separated: source configuration, selection pipeline, notifier, menu handlers, and Squeeze. This simplifies adding feeds and changing the summarization model.

Key features

  • Curation — over thirty feeds + releases from key repositories.
  • AI ranking — noise filtering, frequency limits by topic.
  • Squeeze — article extraction into five key points + key idea (#juice).
  • Digest — "second-tier" materials on schedule or via /digest.
  • Settings — source categories, period, quantity, UI language.

Result

The bot is in production and is used daily; Squeeze extracts also feed the publication pipeline on the stuzhuk.page / stuzhuklab.ru blog.

What I would improve

Screenshots of the chat on the landing page, subscription metrics, and A/B testing of Squeeze formulations; with increased load — a separate queue for full-text extraction.
